FMC
Clean Up Plan
The following is a list of actions and steps that we will
take to ensure that we minimize the amount of potential waste we bring
with us, that we ensure that we pack out everything we bring in, and
that we contribute to the overall clean up efforts at Burning Man.
Before Burning Man
-
We will only pack items that we know we will need
based on prior years' experience. All wrappers and
boxes will be taken off food products before we set
off, vegatbles pre-cut to reduce waste, and pre-cooked
meals stored in plastic containers. Drink containers
will be crushable aluminum or plastic only.
-
Pre-playa preparation requirements and clean up plans
will be distributed to everyone in our camp in
advance, such that everyone will be well informed with
helpful hints and expectations. We will all take
personal responsibility for ourselves as well as those
around us. We will also appoint one person ("Mr./Ms.
Moop") in overall charge of overseeing clean up
operations and pre-camp planning to ensure that others
remain consious of reducing potential waste brought to
the playa and that no trace is left upon departure.
-
We know to leave space in our cars when packing for
the trip to the playa to make sure we have room to
pack out everything we bring in. We will ensure we
pack the following for the clean up:
- Mutiple 5 gal. buckets for washing dishes & mesh
screen to trap solids for garbage
- 2x4s and industrial poly sheeting for evaporation of
gray water
- Biodegradable Dr. Bronner's soap
- Climbing rope and and twisty ties to secure
structures and items
- Lots of industrial strength trash bags
- Sledgehammer & rebar
- Gloves
- Plastic Lexan dishware and utensils which can be
re-used instead of disposable goods
- 30 gallon trash cans with secured lids
During Burning Man
- We will regularly clean up our camp, and our policy
will be to avoid allowing anything to hit the ground;
We will undertake a shoulder to shoulder sweep clean
up operation once a day, to ensure that nothing is
there that could be blown away or buried etc.
-
We will have several 30 gal trash cans strategicaly
placed with affixed lids secured to rebar to encourage
and facilitate proper disposal of trash. Cans will be
segregated to promote recycling and all waste will
triple bagged. We will remain conscious of trash
outside of our own camp as well, and pick up any that
we see for proper disposal upon return to our camp.
-
We will have no fires, showers or holes in the camp
(other than for rebar). We will use rebar to secure
our shade structures, tents, trash cans, tables, and
any other item or display which has the potential to
be properly secured. Climbing rope will be used to
tie down shade structures with two ropes at 90 degree
angles per corner. Tennis balls will be placed on the
top of the rebar to make it safe for those walking
around camp and glow/flashing lights will hang on any
ropes extending beyond the shade structures for
support.
After Burning Man –
Homeward Bound
-
We will do a thorough shoulder to shoulder clean up
sweep of our camp area ensuring we pick up every item
both on our assigned camp site and in the common areas
in the general vicinity. We will take out everything
we brought in and will ensure that is disposed of
correctly, with all recyclable products being
recycled. We guarantee that there will be no trace
left on our site other than happy memories and good
vibes.
